The Rhetoric Society of Europe (RSE) is a non-profit organization established under Belgian law: Rhetoric Society of Europe VZW (0701.633.959). In compliance with European GDPR law the RSE has created a privacy policy for this website and its features. This privacy policy will explain how our organization uses the personal data we collect from you when you use the features on our website.

What data do we collect?

The RSE collects the following data in relation to the members’ database:

  • Name, email address, country

Furthermore, we collect the following data in relation to membership payments:

  • Whether a payment of membership due is missing, pending or is completed from your PayPal account. The actual payment and other information in relation to this is handled by PayPal, and we encourage you to read their privacy policy.

How do we collect your data?

You directly provide the RSE with most we collect. The basis of all data collection is that of user consent. We collect and process data, when you:

  • Register online and create a profile in the members’ database on the website
  • Pay your membership dues through the website
  • Voluntarily edit you profile in the members’ database on the website

Why do we collect your data?

The RSE collects your data in order to facilitate various activities such as registering new members and allowing current members to renew their membership; providing information about the society and European rhetoric in our newsletter; and establishing a members’ database as a benefit to our members. The purpose of the database is to foster international cooperation between rhetoricians. All these activities are in accordance with the official goal of the organization, which is to “advance the academic study of rhetoric in its broadest sense in Europe by improving the contact between several academics and universities”.

How will we use your data?

The RSE collects your data so that we can:

  • Process your membership and payment of membership dues
  • Email you with the RSE Newsletter
  • Host your account in the members’ database

By agreeing to the privacy policy, your data (name, email, country) will be available to other members through the members’ database. The RSE will not share any data with other parties.

How do we store your data?

The RSE will securely store your data on the webhost server and in the database on the RSE website.

The society will keep your data (name, email, country) until 2 years after your membership has expired. Once this time period has expired, we will delete your data by deleting your full membership account and all data pertaining to it.

Newsletter

The RSE would like to send you information about the activities of the society as well as other news and information of interest to European rhetoric scholars. By agreeing to this policy, you agree to receive the RSE newsletter.

If you have agreed to receive the RSE newsletter, you may always opt out at a later date.

You have the right at any time to stop the RSE to contact you through the newsletter.

What are your data protection rights?

The RSE would like to make sure that you are fully aware of all your data protection rights under EU law. Every user is entitled to the following:

The right to access: You have the right to ask the RSE for copies of your personal data.

The right to rectification: You have the right to request that the RSE correct any information about you that you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request the RSE to complete any information that you believe is incomplete.

The right to erasure: You have the right to request that the RSE erase your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to restrict processing: You have the right to request that the RSE restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to object to processing: You have the right to object to the RSE processing your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to data portability: You have the right to request that the RSE transfer the data we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.

Cookies are text files placed on your computer to collect standard internet log information and visitor behavior information. The RSE will not collect information about you through cookies or similar technology.
